DESCRIPTION:
Sequion 10Na4 is a sequestering agent.
Sequion 10Na4 is an active additives for household chemicals.
Due to its combines properties of complexing and dispersing, Sequion 10Na4 is a highly effective product for use in the textile trade.
Sequion 10Na4 shows complete resistance to oxidizing agents and to chlorine-releasing agents, such as sodium hypochlorite, calcium hypochlorite, chloroisocyanurate.
This property is depicted by Figure 1, which shows how the sequestering power of Sequion 10Na4 remains unaltered even after 30 days of stasis in a formulation containing about 13% active chlorine.
Sequion 10Na4 does not react with sodium hypochlorite contained in the formulation, in fact the content of Cl2 in solution containing this product remain stable along the period of the test and very similar to the one detected on blank solution.
Sequion 10Na4, besides the complete miscibility in water, has excellent solubility in caustic media and alkaline solutions in general.
Sequion 10Na4 is a liquid product at pH 10, consequently is easy to be handled, with practically no risk for users during the preparation of the formulations, since the product does not require a pre-neutralization.
Sequion 10Na4 can be used in some conditions at substoichiometric concentrations, with great advantages in respect to other standard chelating agents, as EDTA or polyphosphates, thanks to its threshold effect.
USAGE:
-Prevention of metal ion contamination:
By adding Sequion 10Na4 to textile treatment baths, such as scouring, bleaching, common problems which normally arise due to metal ion contamination are prevented.
These include :
-Iron stains in alkali scouring baths.
-Decomposition of hydrogen peroxide bleach baths due to presence of iron or copper .
-Deposition of inorganic calcium and magnesium salts onto scouring, bleaching machines.
-A further advantage of Sequion 10Na4 is its ability to sequester different metal ions under varying pH and temperature conditions.
-Whereas the tetra sodium salt of ethylene di-amine tetra-acetic acid (Na-EDTA) is an ideal product for the complexing of calcium and magnesium ions, it will not sequester iron under alkali conditions, nor withstand severe oxidising agents such as hydrogen peroxide.
-Sequion 10Na4 provides excellent sequestering power under those condition for calcium, magnesium, copper and iron.
-Removal of stains caused by metal ions :
Sequion 10Na4 is highly effective remover of iron stains from contaminated yarns or fabrics.
In exceptional cases, two separate treatments may be required.
The temperature may be raised to boil if the quality of fabric allows.
-Prevention of metal ion contamination :
Sequion 10Na4 is stronger on weight/ weight basis than 38% active Na-EDTA solution for the complexing of metal ions.
USES:
-Sanitization:
Due to its resistance to chlorine and excellent solubility in alkali, Sequion 10Na4 is recommended as low-dosage additive with low phosphorus content in sanitizing formulations for the following fields:
-bottle washing
-dairy industry
-zootechnic–breeding
-food manufacturing
-wine industry
-sanitization in general
-Dishwashing:
Sequion 10Na4, liquid or in powder form, is used in formulations for dishwashing machines as partial substitute for STP so to reduce the total amount of phosphorus which contributes to eutrophication.
Sequion 10Na4 is stable in presence of chloroisocyanurate salts and to hypochlorite, that are often contained in such formulations.
Sequion 10Na4 is used as de-scaling additive at 2-3% concentrations.
GENERAL PROPERTIES:
-is a very versatile sequestering agent for all textile operations.
-Combines the dispersing and de-flocculating properties of the inorganic phosphates with the complexing power of organic sequestrants.
-This is particularly important for repairing of yarn or fabric which are contaminated with metal ion stains .
-Sequesters a number of multi-valent ions ,e.g. calcium, magnesium, copper, iron at stoichiometric and is more effective than E.D.T.A. based materials.
-When used at very low concentrations, delays or prevents the precipitation of metal salts from solution , e.g. Sequion 10Na4 is very good at preventing calcium carbonate scale formation .
-is liquid and easily handled and diluted .
PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES:
Sequion 10Na4 is a phosphonic acid of improved performance, characterized by:
-complete stability against chlorine-releasing agents;
-easy handling and excellent solubility in alkaline formulations (also in 50% NaOH);
-very good compatibility with quaternary ammonium compounds;
-excellent performance even in presence of high magnesium water-hardness.
